How To Choose A Heat Sealing Machine?

Feb 06, 2025 Leave a message

Heat sealing machine is used for sealing multiple kraft paper bags, PP bags and heavy duty PE bags, etc. For paper and PP bags with inner PE film, it can automatically seal the inner PE film and stitch the bag mouth, the stitches can be covered in adhesive tape or outside of the crepe tape. And for heavy duty PE bags, it is without sewing head, just heat sealing the bag top.

The heat sealing machine is also a part of bag packaging line, mainly used in animal feed, flour, milk powder, etc industry. It is with good sealing performance, dust-proof, moisture-proof, pollution-proof, etc, which can better protect the packing materials.

Paper bag stitching and sealing system

Usually when we choose a sealing machine, we only focus on the sealing speed and the first purchase cost of the machine, which will lead to a series of problems encountered in use, such as:

The sealing quality is not satisfactory;

The packaging efficiency is low;

The machine always fails and needs frequent maintenance;

Parts are frequently replaced;

The equipment life is short;

The packaging material determines the best manual sealing machine for your packaging process!

How to choose the right sealer? The choice of a sealer consists of 3 elements: packaging material, sealing efficiency and packaging format. The requirements of the packaging and packaging process determine which sealer is suitable. In this article, we outline these 3 factors in the decision-making process and explain step by step how to choose the right sealer.

Sealer Packaging Material

The selection of sealing equipment always starts with answering the same two questions: which product is the packaging machine used for and how is the product packaged? The answers to these questions determine the packaging material.

Requirements for packaging materials can vary greatly and are affected by the product, the function of the packaging and other conditions. In addition to product requirements, the function of the packaging also plays a role in the requirements for packaging materials. Packaging materials that only need to contain the product are very different from display packaging. Therefore, this also affects the choice of sealer. Finally, there are external conditions that affect packaging requirements - for example, product transportation requirements or sustainability goals. Options such as reuse, recycling or reducing environmental impact play a role in the choice of packaging materials.

Sealer Working Efficiency

In addition to the packaging material, the number of packages to be processed also plays an important role in the choice of sealer. How many packages do you want to seal per minute, hour or day? Manual sealers are ideal for relatively low numbers of packages, up to about 200 packages per day. However, there are two different types of sealers available, impulse and constant heat. The expected number of packages determines which of these two technologies is best suited for the packaging process.

The difference between an impulse sealer and a constant heat sealer is actually quite simple. Instead of continuously heating, an impulse sealer has a resistance wire that heats up instantly each time it is used. A constant heat sealer is always hot when it is turned on.

In processes that process up to 6 packages per minute, an impulse sealer is a good solution. This type of sealer is not continuously heated, which makes it better suited for sealing processes where the cold press interrupts the heating. Constant heat is better suited for continuous processes where more packages are processed and speed comes into play, as it is always hot.

Seal Width and Seal Length

Depending on the packaging material and the number of packages to be sealed, we can choose the sealing method: constant heat or impulse. The width of the bag then determines the seal length. The seal length is the effective length of the heating wire on the sealer. This must always be slightly larger than the width of the bag, but not too long to prevent wear on the sealer.

If you are sealing packages of different widths, you should determine the seal length based on the widest package. Consider how often the different packages are used. If the same section on the sealing bar is often unused, the sealer will wear out quickly. In this case, it may make sense to add a second sealer to the packaging process for the narrower packages.
